(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A young couple woke to someone pounding on their door in the early morning hours of Monday, Feb. 23, leading to an altercation where an unknown woman tried to break into their apartment before gunfire was exchanged, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).
CSPD stated that at around 1 a.m. on Monday, officers responded to reports of a shooting at a home in the 300 block of University Drive, near South Academy Boulevard and Airport Road. At the scene, they learned that a young couple and their 5-year-old daughter had been sleeping in their home when they woke to the sounds of someone pounding on their door. When the homeowner answered the door, a woman he didn’t know tried to force her way in, demanding to see someone who didn’t live there.
According to CSPD, the homeowner was able to force the door closed and armed himself with a handgun to protect his family. Multiple gunshots were fired into the apartment, narrowly missing the homeowner and hitting the opposite wall, where the daughter was sleeping on the other side.
