Wildfire prompts evacuations in Colorado on gusty ‘Red Flag’ day

UPDATE: Per a 3:32 p.m. update from Franktown Fire, this fire is 100% contained. Mop up continues. Per the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the evacuation order has been lifted.

Per a 12:56 p.m. alert from Franktown Fire on February 24, a grass fire has sparked near Dahlberg Road and Lake Gulch Road. Initially reported to be about five acres in size and burning about eight miles east of where I-25 passes through the Larkspur area, the blaze has since grown to 50 acres (as of a 1:31 p.m. update) and is moving southeast.

The fire has resulted in an evacuation order for those from Lake Gulch to Greenland and from Dahlberg to Highway 83. Those in this area have been told to leave immediately. The Douglas County Office of Emergency Management has requested aerial resources. Private citizens have been asked to avoid the area at this time…
