(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Colorado Springs Utilities (Springs Utilities) said starting on Monday, March 2, it will begin its final phase of the Galley Road Water Main Improvement Project.
The project started in July 2024 to replace more than 4,400 feet of water main and add new lining to more than a mile of existing water main. The project was split into four phases, with the final phase from Moffat Circle to Powers Boulevard starting Monday.
During this phase of the project, a structural lining will be added to the existing pipeline, extending the life of the water line and reducing future maintenance needs. The installation of a liner instead of a full replacement will allow crews to complete the work with fewer community and traffic impacts, according to Springs Utilities.
Springs Utilities expects the following road impacts and closures:
- Westbound Galley Road will be reduced to one lane open throughout the project.
- Eastbound Galley Road will be closed at Wooten Road from Monday, March 2, through Friday, April 10. The detour will direct drivers south on Wooten Road, east on Geiger Boulevard, north on Babcock Road, and back to Galley Road.
- Northbound Wooten Road will follow the detour route via Geiger Road.
- Southbound Wooten Road will allow either a right turn onto westbound Galley Road or continue across the intersection to detour via Geiger Road, as there will be no left turn onto eastbound Galley Road.
Springs Utilities is encouraging drivers to use caution in work zones, follow all posted signage, and allow extra time to reach their destinations. The final phase is expected to be complete by June 2026…
