HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — U.S. Space Command is rolling out substantial relocation and retention bonuses to encourage civilian employees to move from its longstanding Colorado Springs headquarters to its future permanent home at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.
A U.S. Space Command spokesperson confirmed to News 19 that civilians who choose to move will have their moves paid for and be eligible for a relocation bonus paid out over a period of years.

Continuity, the care of personnel and families, and preserving our warfighting culture are priorities through U.S. Space Command’s headquarters relocation. Civilians who choose to move to Huntsville along with their jobs will have their moves paid for and be eligible for relocation bonuses paid out over a period of years. Additionally, a retention bonus has been initiated for headquarters staff civilians currently working in Colorado Springs to support them through their career decision-making process and to retain them in the Command as long as possible until their function relocates. Earlier this year, we announced the Redstone Transition Team director, MG Terry Grisham, who’s located on the ground in Huntsville full-time along with the first members of our headquarters staff (which includes civilian employees) who are building out the Project Management Office.

The incentives, described by officials as “significant,” according to some reports, are aimed at softening the impact of the cross-country transition and retaining experienced personnel as the command continues its three-year relocation process.
