CSFD: House fire caused by smoking near Christmas tree

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) said the owner of a home will be displaced after a house fire on Friday, March 6.

On Friday at around 4 p.m., CSFD was alerted to a possible fire on Warwick Lane near Constitution Avenue and North Academy Boulevard. CSFD said crews could see smoke on the way to the scene and called a working structure fire to get resources to the area faster. Fire crews arrived about three minutes after the initial call, according to CSFD.

When crews arrived, CSFD said they found fire coming from the garage and a window of the home. The homeowner was already out of the home by the time crews arrived. Fire crews were alerted to a dog still being inside the home, and the dog was rescued with no injuries.

CSFD said the cause of the fire was deemed accidental after fire crews interviewed the homeowner, and an investigation revealed the homeowner was smoking in the garage near an old Christmas tree, which caught fire and spread to the majority of the home…
