City of Colorado Springs seeks public input on plan to reduce serious crashes by 35%

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The City of Colorado Springs has established a goal to reduce serious and fatal crashes by 35% by the year 2035. Officials are currently finalizing a proposal for safety projects and are seeking public input on the plan through April 2.

The plan includes a mix of infrastructure improvements, such as flashing school zones and raised crosswalks, along with expanded educational programs for local students.

Todd Frisbie, City Traffic Engineer for Colorado Springs, said notable streets where the majority of incidents occur include busy corridors such as Woodmen Road, Garden of the Gods Road, Austin Bluffs Parkway, Fillmore Street, Powers Boulevard, Academy Boulevard, Nevada Avenue, Union Avenue, Platte Avenue, Airport Road, and Marksheffel Road. “We have identified a high-risk network, which only makes up about 5% of our city streets, but 53% of our crashes occur on those streets,” Frisbie said…
