Cost of Acacia Park band shell renovation much higher than expected

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The push to give Acacia Park’s historic band shell in Downtown Colorado Springs a facelift may cost more than originally thought.

FOX21 previously reported in December that the Colorado Springs Rotary Club was raising money to fix up the band shell after the city said it could not help fund a renovation.

Trevor Dierdorff, who’s part of the organization, told the Colorado Springs Urban Renewal Authority Board on Wednesday that the initial idea was to make repairs for less than $500,000. Unfortunately, the Rotary Club’s scope, and the estimated price tag, has changed exponentially.

“With the bathrooms being added and changing out the interior of the band shell to accommodate more of a green room space, and the renovation of the hub–right now the number, which may need to be right sized yet, right now the number I’ve gotten from RTA, $6.7 million,” said Dierdorff…
