(COLORADO SPRINGS/CUSTER, S.D.) — Have you ever seen a bison’s tongue? Recently, crews with the Cimarron Hills Fire Department (CHFD) in Colorado Springs shared just that as they traveled to Custer, South Dakota, to help battle a wildfire.
Scrolling through Facebook on Tuesday, March 17, you may have come across quite the curious sight—bison seemingly licking a fire truck. FOX21 News reached out to CHFD Fire Chief Andrew York to uncover the story behind this particularly unusual encounter.
“1340 received a free car wash… South Dakota style,” a caption on the CHFD Facebook page read. “Payment accepted in curiosity and smiles.” Chief York told us that the crew of Engine 1340 of CHFD was in Custer, South Dakota, when on Sunday, March 15, they snapped a couple of unique photos.
“The engine was on patrol for the Qury Fire when they came upon a few bison blocking the road,” wrote York. “As the crew waited for the bison to move, some of them came up to the truck and started licking the side.”…
