(PIKES PEAK REGION, Colo.) — The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) said it has seen a lot of unique stories, but recently, a pair came to the shelter that made the office stop: a bonded dog and cat.
HSPPR said cats and dogs getting along is not anything new, but a bonded pair is something else, a kind of relationship where being separated from each other actually lowers their quality of life.
Apollo and Ace have shared eight years together, eight years of being each other’s constant in a world that doesn’t exactly specialize in consistency. When their owner was faced with a family crisis and had to make the difficult decision to surrender them, she told HSPPR that these two were best friends and she hoped they could stay together.
HSPPR needed to know if they were a bonded pair or if they just got along very well. When the two were brought into the office, they softened. In the middle of a busy shelter, there was a quiet shift in the room, like everything just settled.
