Legacy and future of Poor Richard’s in downtown Colorado Springs in new owners’ hands

A beloved downtown Colorado Springs business has new owners. After nearly 51 years as operators, Richard Skorman and his wife, Patricia Seator, have sold their Poor Richard’s book store, toy store and restaurant, effective immediately.

The new owners are former Fox21 news director and anchor Joe Cole and his wife, Colorado Springs native Sarah Gibeau-Cole, who “grew up wandering the aisles of Poor Richard’s,” according to a press release from the business.

The couple rose to the top of multiple offers “because of their shared values, deep community roots and commitment to preserving what makes Poor Richard’s special,” the statement said. They were particularly moved by the “free meals for federal workers” that Poor Richard’s offered during last fall’s government shutdown…
