Front Range Passenger Rail District held town hall

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Front Range Passenger Rail Town District held a town hall meeting on Friday, April 17, to address community questions and concerns regarding its planning progress. District officials indicated that the project’s expansion past its current demonstration route is still five to ten years away.

Officials also reported that they are finalizing their operation plans. Currently, the rail service operates a demonstration train between Denver and Longmont. Once expanded to Colorado Springs, the commute from downtown Colorado Springs to Denver’s Union Station is estimated to be about 2 hours, including stops.

“You know, congestion on I-25 is terrible,” said Sal Pace, General Manager of Front Ranger Passenger Rail District. “People, including myself, can’t stand the white-knuckle drive up to Denver. It’s also going to be more affordable, especially with the rising gas prices. And so there’s a real opportunity to bring alternatives, transportation alternatives, to Colorado Springs. And in Southern Colorado.”…
