Local school teacher nominated for teacher of the year

(COLORADO SPRINGS) –Laurel Latimer, a preschool teacher at Martinez Elementary in Colorado Springs, has advanced to the group finals of the national America’s Favorite Teacher competition. As of Sunday, April 20, she is holding first place in her group, with a chance to win $25,000, a trip to Hawaii, and an appearance in Reader’s Digest.

Her school and students could also benefit, with the grand prize including money for the school library and a visit from Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Latimer’s dedication spans 18 years as a preschool teacher, including seven years at Martinez Elementary. The Martinez community has rallied behind her, engaging in daily voting to support her in the competition.

Latimer expressed her passion for her profession, stating, “I work with the greatest little kids in the world. They are the joy of my life. And I love seeing them grow and learn, and inspiring them every day, and with new ideas; I’m just really thankful for my job.”…
