Pipeline company files court actions against dozens of SC landowners

A major energy infrastructure company has filed a multitude of legal actions against landowners in Hampton and Colleton counties in hopes that the South Carolina circuit courts will grant surveying access for a highly opposed natural gas pipeline project.

Dominion Energy and Santee Cooper plan to build a gas megaproject in the rural Colleton County area of Canadys, on the banks of the Edisto River, along with a 70-plus-mile-long underground pipeline to supply it. The power plant portion of that project has already gained regulatory approval by the S.C. Public Service Commission.

From the moment these projects were announced in late 2025, the local opposition from landowners and area residents has been organized and fierce, as the pipeline is expected to impact nearly 200 landowners in two counties, as well as the environmentally sensitive ACE Basin watershed…
