Alex Murdaugh returns to court to hash out retrial details

(NewsNation) — Alex Murdaugh returned to a South Carolina courtroom Monday for the first time since the state’s highest court threw out his murder convictions for a status hearing over his retrial.

The hearing in Lexington County was mainly about scheduling. A new judge, Debra McCaslin, met with prosecutors and Murdaugh’s defense team to set deadlines for swapping evidence and start mapping out a timeline for the new trial.

McCaslin focused the hearing on discovery and the need to exchange all remaining evidence, including phone records, fingerprints and ballistics. Prosecutors said the state has turned over all required discovery and is ready to move forward…
