Speedsters beware: Georgia crackdown has begun

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Georgia law enforcement has begun a major statewide crackdown on speeding motorists. Operation Southern Slow Down has returned for the ninth year, and that means officers across the Southeast will be out in force Monday through Sunday.

In addition to the Peach State, the initiative includes Alabama, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Officers will spend the week watching interstates and major highways, targeting:

  • Speeding
  • Aggressive and reckless driving
  • Impaired driving
  • Distracted driving and hands-free violations
  • Seat belt violations
  • And any traffic law violations they spot along the way
