Over a two-week period in September, the City of Columbia conducted the autumn half of its 12th annual pedestrian and bicyclist count to gather data for city planning.
The study, which took place between Sept. 12 and Sept. 26, analyzed pedestrian and bicyclist traffic at 35 different locations around the city. The locations vary each year. The city chooses the locations based on criteria including crash data and planned infrastructure projects. City staff and volunteers survey the locations in both fall and spring. Many of them experience major student traffic, such as the section of Blossom Street that runs past the Honors Residence Hall.
