Nicholas Donofrio reportedly knocked, banged and kicked on a house he thought was his, sparking the fears of a man and woman inside

Newly released 911 audio reveals the moment a South Carolina college student tried to enter the wrong house and was fatally shot by a man inside last year.

University of South Carolina junior Nicholas Donofrio, 20, was heading to his off-campus house in Columbia after spending time with his friends at a sports bar last August.

But doorbell footage obtained by CT Insider last month showed the Connecticut native approaching the wrong house and trying to open the door before sitting down on a bench outside.

He then reportedly knocked, banged and kicked on the house he thought was his, sparking the fears of the man and woman inside.

“Somebody’s trying to break into our house,” the woman told a 911 dispatcher at the time, according to call audio obtained by the Associated Press .

“They just broke the window,” the woman told the 911 operator, according to the Daily Mail . “My boyfriend just shot through the door.”
