South Carolina Nurse Snuck Weed, Other Contraband to Inmates in Cracker Box: Deputies

Jakiera Day is the seventh worker at the jail to be arrested since the beginning of the year

A South Carolina correctional nurse accused of using a cracker box to sneak in weed and other contraband into a jail allegedly had contact with several inmates leading up to her arrest, authorities say.

Jakiera Day has been charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and two counts of contraband, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, WACH-TV , WIS-TV , and WLTX-TV reported.

Day — employed through an outside agency as a nurse at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Columbia, South Carolina — was arrested Sunday after she was allegedly caught trying to smuggle drugs and other items hidden in a box of crackers through the jail’s front door.

Notes to inmates, medications and documents from the jail were recovered from her vehicle during a search, according to deputies.

Day’s bond was set at $10,000.

She is the seventh worker at the jail to be arrested since the beginning of the year, according to the sheriff’s office.
