In recent months, multiple prisons in South Carolina have seen various illegal activities perpetrated by officers sworn to uphold the law.
The most recent of these offenses have come from the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County, which saw seven officers arrested in January alone. The arrests are being made in an intensified effort to combat contraband within the prison.
The investigations, conducted by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department between since mid January, come off the heels of a letter to the County Administrator, issued by the South Carolina Department of Corrections, warning of the potential closure of Alvin S. Glenn unless the county addresses the numerous violations within a 90-day period. The arrests include charges of contraband or misconduct, with two employees from Allied Universal Security, a third-party company, and five directly hired by the detention center.
