Georgia wilts in second half, loses against South Carolina

ATHENS — Remember when Georgia basketball was the talk of the town and everybody was excited about the Bulldogs’ potential in the second season under coach Mike White? Yeah, well, that’s over.

Optimism died here at Stegeman Coliseum on Saturday with a second half that might stink up the 60-year-old building for a while. South Carolina used the closing 20 to dominate in the paint and avenge the last loss it had, which came to Georgia five games ago. The Gamecocks left 72-62 victors, while the Bulldogs lost their third consecutive game and third at home this season.

The lopsided loss sent home disappointed another sellout crowd of 10,523 and left White searching for solutions.

South Carolina is really good. Really, really good.”
