Female escaped kidnapper, leading to barricaded standoff in Lexington, SC police say

An hours long standoff ended Sunday night when a man who had barricaded himself inside a South Carolina home was taken into custody and charged with kidnapping and assaulting a female victim, according to the Lexington Police Department .

The barricaded standoff happened in the 100 block of Palm Court , police said Monday in a news release. That’s in a part of Lexington between U.S. 378 and Old Cherokee Road.

At about 7 p.m., officers responded to a home following a call about female who had been kidnapped and held against her will for several hours, according to the release. The victim had been assaulted before she was able to escape and call law enforcement officers, police said.

Further information on the victim’s condition was not available.

Officers’ attempts to contact the man barricaded inside the home were unsuccessful, and members of the police department’s Emergency Services Team and the Crisis Negotiations Unit were called, according to the release.

Further negotiations with the barricaded man, later identified as 57-year-old Lexington resident Keith Dwayne Miles, failed to lead to his surrender, according to police. The Emergency Services Team then extracted Miles “without further incident,” police said at 11 p.m.
