Eleven people hospitalized following fatal crash between car and van, SC cops say

One person was killed Sunday in a crash that left 11 others hospitalized, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol .

The two-vehicle collision happened in Edgefield County, said Master Trooper Gary Miller.

At about 3:35 p.m., a 2003 Toyota Camry was driving south on Plum Branch Road , while a 2004 Toyota Sienna van was heading east on Morgan Bussey Road, according to Miller. The van driver disregarded a stop sign and the vehicles collided, Miller said.

One of eight passengers in the van died at the scene, according to Miller.

The Edgefield County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the passenger who died.

The van driver, along with the other seven passengers, as well as the Camry driver and two passengers in that car were taken to an area hospital, Miller said. Further information on the surviving victims’ conditions was not available.

There was no word if any of the people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts. The wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
