Columbia, SC – South Carolina’s Office of Victim Services as of November 12th had received 383 correspondences about Susan Smith’s upcoming parole hearing. Just six of the responses supported her early release from prison. Smith is the notorious South Carolina mom who murdered her childrenwhen she sent her car down a Union County, SC boat ramp with the children strapped in their car seats in the backseat. She then lied and told authorities in 1994 that she had been carjacked by a black man who forced her from the vehicle and drove off with the kids. For nine days the community and nation searched for three-year-old Michael and 14-month-old Alexander based on Smith’s lies. Smith later confessed to the crime after pressure from law enforcement when details of her story began to unravel. Smith after serving 30 years of the life sentence she received for two counts of murder became eligible for parole on November 4, 2024. Her hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, November 20. News 13 will be in Columbia, SC for that hearing.
