One person was killed Saturday night when a car ran off a Midlands road and crashed, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol .
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 7 p.m. in Orangeburg County, said Sgt. Tyler Tidwell.
A Hyundai sedan was driving west on Redmond Mill Road , according to Tidwell. Near the intersection with Magenta Drive the car ran off the left side of the Redmond Mill Road where it hit a tree and the driver died.
The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the driver.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if the driver was wearing a seat belt.
Information about what caused the Hyundai to veer off the road was not available, and Tidwell did not say if the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Dec. 15, at least 926 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2024, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,030 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
