MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – Good Monday morning! A chilly start to the week of Christmas. Most of us woke up to temperatures in the 20s across the area. Good thing to note is, this will be the coldest morning for at least the need week. High pressure to our northeast will continue to pump in cold arctic air into the region. This will help us stay below 50 degrees today across the region.
Tonight a developing low pressure system will form off the South Carolina coast and ride along our coastal areas. This will spread rain back into the coastal and Pee Dee communities. Right now the probabilities favor a light rain event for most of our viewing area. There is some model agreement that a heavier band of rain could set up between the Interstate 95 corridor to the coast. If this was to materialize, then some areas could see a little more rainfall.
Another concern for the rain tonight could be some areas could fall pretty close to the freezing mark. This will be a watch and see event. Areas in the border belt and western Pee Dee near Darlington, Bennettsville, Clio, McColl, Blenheim, Gibson, Society Hill, and Cheraw could see temperatures flirting enough with freezing that a light glaze of ice is not out of the question.
