South Carolina residents react to Mega Millions $1B jackpot

SOUTH CAROLINA (WSPA) – The Mega Millions Lottery jackpot is an estimated $1 billion for the Tuesday night drawing.

According to the South Carolina Education Lottery , the jackpot is the seventh-largest in Mega Millions history.

“I play it, every, every time,” said Rodney Scott, an Upstate resident. “[To] get a chance to win, I gotta play it.”

The odds of matching all five white balls, plus the Mega Ball, are approximately 1 in 303,000,000 according to the official Mega Millions website .

Only one person has won the Mega Millions jackpot in South Carolina. The winning ticket was bought back in 2018, and that person won $1.537 billion.

“People are crazy about the Mega Millions, so they be buying a lot,” said Neel Patel, a clerk at a Greer gas station. “They buy like 20 tickets at a time – 20, 30. I see people buy like a hundred tickets.”

On Tuesday, game officials said the jackpot had climbed more than $30 million dollars from Monday’s total.

The jackpot has taken the Upstate by storm.
