Search for missing South Carolina man who hasn’t been seen in a week, sheriff says

A search is underway for a missing man who was last seen in Lexington County.

Cage Riley Amburgy was publicly reported missing by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office Jan. 2, and new information connected to the search was confirmed Monday. The 22-year-old has not been seen in a week , the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Amburgy was last seen Dec. 30, 2024, according to the release. The sheriff’s office originally said Amburgy was last seen in the area of Whitmire Highway in Kinards , but Monday’s update corrected that information to show Amburgy was actually last spotted the same day in Chapin. That’s more than 30 miles from the town that is located in both Laurens and Newberry counties.

There was no word if Amburgy was alone when he was last seen, and information about what he was doing in the Chapin area of Lexington County was not available. The sheriff’s office did not say if foul play was suspected in Amburgy’s disappearance.

The sheriff’s office described Amburgy as a 5-foot-10, 135-pound man with blue-colored eyes and brown hair. Amburgy was on on his green bicycle the day that he was last seen, and was wearing a book bag as well as an orange vest over his clothes, the sheriff’s office said.
