New parking rates are now in effect across downtown Columbia.
In Dec. of 2024, City Council approved the first substantial changes in the City’s parking ordinance in over two decades. The new revised parking ordnance aims to generate additional revenue for infrastructure improvements, boost maintenance, operations and overall customer experience, according to the city.
Rates have increased to $1.50 per hour. The previous rate of 75 cents no longer applies.
Parking fines are also set to rise, with the cost of a standard ticket jumping from $8 to $25. Fines for parking in a fire lane will see a significant increase, rising to $500—more than a $400 jump…
