Justice is closer for two victims as third suspect is taken into custody

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Nearly six months after the fatal shooting of her son, Janice Johns is speaking out, expressing a sense of relief now that a third suspect has been arrested in connection with the deaths of her son, Corey Johns, and 37-year-old Jibaris Veal.

Corey Johns, 40, and Jibaris Veal were shot and killed last September on Koon Store Road in Richland County. Both victims were found in a vehicle, dead from multiple gunshot wounds. In the months following the incident, Richland County deputies arrested 34-year-old Travis Harrison and 36-year-old Emerson Crespo. This week, 18-year-old Devon Huguenin was taken into custody, bringing a sense of closure for Johns’ grieving mother.

Janice Johns spoke emotionally about the arrests, reflecting on the pain of losing her eldest son and the gradual process of finding justice. “When the first one got arrested, I was like, okay, thank you, Jesus.
