The University of South Carolina’s College of Nursing will launch the state’s only accredited nurse-midwifery education program in Fall 2025, aimed at addressing South Carolina’s growing maternal health challenges.
The program will train nurse-midwives who provide critical care for women across their lifetimes, including gynecological, prenatal, postpartum, and primary care. Research has shown that midwives help reduce C-section rates, lower preterm birth rates, and improve breastfeeding outcomes.
