After the South Carolina Gamecocks beat the Texas Longhorns to win a ticket to the NCAA Championship on Sunday, Coach Dawn Staley had glowing words to say about her team and her program.
During the post-game press conference , a reporter asked Staley how integral their depth has been to their wins this season, citing when Tessa Johnson and MiLaysia Fulwiley were inserted into the game when they were down 12-4 against Texas.
“It’s what we’ve counted on them all season long ever since last year,” Staley said. “Our depth has been a part of the success of our program. I mean, they can start, both of them… They chose to come to us because, one, you’re going to learn how to play, like really gonna learn how to play. Two, you’re gonna play a competitive schedule, three you’re gonna play in front of the best fans in the country at an almost capacity clip. They want to be pros. We produce pros.”
However, Staley added, they don’t take their wins for granted. In fact, she won’t even really talk about how they’ve never lost a title game, because past wins won’t help their next game…
