Mother, teen son charged in connection with Columbia mall shooting; 3 still wanted

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A mother and her teen son are in custody as the Richland County Sheriff’s Department continues its investigation of a mall shooting that left an innocent bystander wounded and sent others running in April.

At a press conference on Friday afternoon, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said a 16-year-old was taken into custody earlier in the day on a charge of attempted murder. Investigators have also arrested Erika Edmonds for allegedly helping the 16-year-old and not notifying law enforcement despite knowing they were involved.

The arrests come following the April 2 shooting at Columbia Place Mall, where a bystander was shot and video showed a mother diving to the floor to protect her child from bullets…
