Morning storms move out; Risk of heavy rainfall on tap for Monday

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Today’s First Alert Weather Day has come to an end now that this morning’s storms have cleared out. Another First Alert Weather Day will be in place Monday for more heavy rainfall.

First Alert Summary:

This morning’s First Alert Weather Day has expired now that the risk of strong storms has ended. There could be a a few additional isolated downpours or a thunderstorm later today, but coverage should be fairly low. Expect temperatures to reach the lower and middle 80s this afternoon.

Keep you rain gear close by heading into Mother’s Day Weekend! A slow-moving low pressure will continue to bring off and on showers to much of the region. Sunday is on track to be the soggier day this weekend with a 50% chance of scattered showers. Temperatures will also run well below normal all weekend long with highs generally in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

More rain is anticipated looking ahead to early next week. In fact, Monday is also a First Alert Weather Day for waves of heavy rainfall and the threat of flash flooding. Rainfall totals through early next week could be up to 3-4″ across the Midlands.

The end to the unsettled weather pattern is expected to come to an end by early next week. The low pressure system will lift northward out of the area by this time. The forecast by the end of the week will shape up to be much drier and hotter. We could see temperatures creep up to the lower 90s.
