Active weather pattern arrives to the Midlands starting Sunday

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Although our weather remains quiet through this evening, the chance of rain and storms will increase for the Midlands late tonight into Sunday morning.

  • Showers and some storms spread overhead by early Sunday morning through the afternoon.
  • Unsettled weather pattern sticks around for almost all next week.

First Alert Summary:

Any and all holiday festivities will be good to go this evening! Outside of clouds increase out of the west, the forecast will consist of dry conditions and temperatures holding steady in the 70s. Changes will start to occur overnight as our first wave of rain emerges to the. Showers will become possible after midnight through the early morning hours. Expect overnight lows in the 60s.

Sunday will be soggy at times for the area with rain and thunderstorms likely, especially in the morning and early afternoon. We’ll closely be monitoring the potential for a few stronger thunderstorms at times with gust winds. The severe risk is low, but not zero.

While rain chances will go down a bit, Monday will also feature a chance of showers for Memorial Day. This will keep temperatures down quite a bit with highs only in the upper 70s to near 80-degrees.

This slow-moving weather system will unfortunately keep a chance of rain in the forecast for almost every next week. Another front may try to swing in by late week, which could help taper off rain chances into the following weekend.
