Deputy fired after contact with driver sparks misconduct charge

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A member of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department’s community action team has been fired and arrested after a deputy’s actions following a traffic stop.

The sheriff’s department said that investigators learned on June 19 that 29-year-old deputy Christopher Moore abused his position and his access to information about someone he pulled over. Investigators said Moore collected a female driver’s information during a traffic stop as part of his duties.

However, authorities stated that he later contacted the person from his work-issued cell phone, which the sheriff’s department described as an attempt to form a personal relationship.
