CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – As part of a nationwide crackdown, multiple North and South Carolina residents were arrested on federal charges relating to healthcare fraud.
The announcement was made on June 30 when the attorneys general of North and South Carolina, the FBI, the IRS’s Criminal Investigation representatives, and the Department of Health and Human Services met in Charlotte.
Nationally, 324 people were charged, but locally, nine people were arrested after allegedly conspiring to defund Medicaid programs in the Carolinas by buying and selling the information of Medicaid beneficiaries.
