COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – South Carolina is home to the largest Army Basic Training installation in the United States. Since 1917, thousands of men and women have trained at Fort Jackson to serve in the military. Today, there are more than 449,000 active-duty Army members. Each year, 58 percent of new soldiers are forged at Fort Jackson.
Before trainees earn the title of Soldier, they must complete 10 intense weeks of Basic Combat Training. They will be challenged physically, mentally, and emotionally.
For some trainees, it’s their first time in South Carolina, away from home and life as they know it…
