Several deputies injured during high-speed chase in Richland County, suspect facing assault charges

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A late-night pursuit on July 8 ended with multiple injured deputies, damaged patrol vehicles, and an arrest following a chase that spanned parts of I-77 North near Farrow Road, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

John McManus, 29, is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, reckless driving, failure to stop for blue lights and siren, no South Carolina driver’s license, and speeding 25+ MPH over the limit

Deputies say the incident began shortly after 10:45 p.m., when a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop of a vehicle speeding 90 mph in a 60 mph zone. Although the vehicle initially came to a stop, the driver fled at a high rate of speed as the deputy approached to request identification, according to deputies.
