COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The potential for overcrowding at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and $4 million in affordable housing funds will be used in Richland County, were some of the topics county leaders discussed Tuesday afternoon.
County administrator Leonardo Brown showed the numbers today. The county jail has a capacity limit of 1,130 inmates, but right now there are around 900 inmates at the jail.
Of those 900 inmates, around 50% are violent offenders, and more than 360 have been in there for over a year, still awaiting trial.
