Banking Bureaucracy: Midlands veteran battles bank after $70k disappears

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – A Midlands veteran has recovered more than $70,000 in lost savings after criminals with counterfeit checks drained a Truist Bank account, which sparked a legal battle over accountability.

Robert Johnson Jr., an 84-year-old retired Command Sergeant Major who made two 18-month deployments to Vietnam, has been a loyal customer of the bank for decades.
