Richland County hate crime arrest fuels conversation about statewide law

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Richland County’s first hate intimidation arrest is now at the center of a bigger conversation: a statewide hate crimes bill that some people say is long overdue.

The arrest happened last Thursday, where deputies say 33-year-old Jonathan Felkel shot at a Black neighbor at the front gate of the Spring Valley neighborhood on July 17 because of his race.
