COLUMBIA, S.C. — City and county leaders gathered in downtown Columbia Tuesday to unveil a major investment in the heart of the capital city: a massive project to revitalize Main Street with new housing, retail, public space, and a consolidated municipal complex — all part of a broader vision city leaders are calling “Project Catalyst.”
Standing outside 1401 Main Street, the site what will be the city’s refurbished 12-story municipal complex, Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickenmann called the project “transformational,” saying the development would bring new life to a parking lot that has sat largely unused for decades.
