The Lexington Medical Center health care network announced Friday that it will now be known as Lexington Health. According to a press release, this name change is intended to reflect the growth and advancement of the hospital since it’s establishment in the Midlands more than 50 years ago.
“Our commitment to our communities remains the same,” said the hospital system’s CEO Tod Augsburger. “Lexington Health will continue to offer the most advanced medicine and highest quality care to our friends, families and neighbors now and in the future.”
When it opened its doors as Lexington County Hospital in 1971, the hospital had 125 beds and 250 employees. Today, the Lexington Health comprehensive network of care includes a 607-bed teaching hospital, six community medical and urgent care centers, close to 80 physician practices, and more than 9,000 health care professionals.
