Earthquakes detected in Carolinas Saturday

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – According to the United States Geological Survey, USGS, three earthquakes happened within a span of 24 hours in the Carolinas.

Two earthquakes were detected in North Carolina while one was recorded in South Carolina.

The first earthquake occurred in the vicinity of Myrtle Beach, more specifically, about six miles west of Bucksport, South Carolina shortly after midnight. A magnitude of 1.9 was recorded.

In North Carolina near Rosman around 7AM, another earthquake with a magnitude of 2.1 was recorded.

A couple hours later, the third earthquake happened nearby, about seven miles west of Rosman, and registered a 1.8 magnitude.

Generally, magnitudes around 2.0 and lower go unnoticed. However, according to the USGS website, as of late Saturday morning, three reports of light shaking and no damage were submitted to the site regarding the 1.8 earthquake near Rosman.
