SC Shrimpers’ lawyer says Hyman’s backed out of resolution over misrepresented shrimp

LOWCOUNTRY, S.C. (WCIV) — Hyman’s Seafood has backed out of a resolution involving their alleged misrepresentation of the origins of the shrimp they serve, according to Gedney Howe IV, an attorney representing the South Carolina Shrimpers Association.

Howe had previously announced the resolution in early July, saying the tourist hot-spot had “reaffirmed their commitment to transparency and pledged their support in our fight to save the shrimping industry” after it was embroiled in the “Shrimpgate Scandal.” The restaurant had previously said a miscommunication led to social media posts claiming they served local shrimp when they were actually serving imported shrimp. After discovering the posts, Hyman’s reportedly reached out to Howe’s office to put measures in place to ensure such a misrepresentation wouldn’t happen again. Howe now says the agreement he reached with the restaurant will not be honored and it has chosen to oppose the efforts of South Carolina shrimpers’ in court.
