Beat the Heat program offers free trees to Columbia property owners

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The City of Columbia is teaming up with Columbia Green to host its fourth educational event as part of the “Beat the Heat” initiative, a program aimed at expanding the city’s tree canopy and reducing urban heat.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Earlewood Park, 1113 Recreation Drive, Columbia. It will include free information for residents on how to apply for up to three free trees, as well as tips on selecting, siting, planting, and caring for them to ensure survival. Participants are encouraged to RSVP by filling out a short form at columbiagreen.org/beattheheat.
