Storied Threads explores South Carolina’s textile legacy Sept. 3; Theater Arts Day engages students Sept. 27.
The South Carolina State Museum is celebrating creativity and culture next month with two special events highlighting the worlds of textiles, design, and performance.
On Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., the museum, in partnership with the Columbia Design League, will host Storied Threads: History, Artistry, and Innovation in South Carolina Textiles and Design. The evening begins with a panel discussion led by Laura Conte, the State Museum’s Curator of History. Panelists include:
- Diko Pekdemir-Lewis, Creative Director and Owner of Anton & Maxine, Columbia Design League member
- Kendra Johnson, Professor of Theatre at Clemson University
- Kathy Phillips, Chief Curator of the Baxter Mill Archive
- Virginia Theerman, Curator of Historic Textiles at the Charleston Museum
Following the discussion, guests can enjoy a light reception and visit the blockbuster exhibition Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume, created by the Walt Disney Archives.
