South Carolina civil rights landmark gets new marquee as part of site restoration efforts

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – All-Star Bowling Lanes, an important landmark for the Civil Rights Movement in South Carolina, lit its new marquee Monday night.

Rep. Jim Clyburn, who represents the area in Congress, officially lit the marquee and was joined by Orangeburg Mayor Michael Butler.

The bowling alley, already listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the African-American Civil Rights Network, is being preserved by the Center for Creative Partnerships with funding from the National Park Service, valued so far at $2,750,000…
