Florence County officials want parents to prepare teenage drivers for upcoming hands-free device law

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Starting on Labor Day, South Carolina will have a new statewide law requiring drivers to be hands-free when using devices.

Back in May, Gov. Henry McMaster signed it into law, banning drivers from holding or supporting a mobile electronic device while operating a vehicle.

Drivers will not be allowed to use a mobile device to read, compose, or send text messages, emails, or other forms of text communication. That also goes for watching videos, movies, games, or engaging in video calls…
