Columbia, S.C. (WACH) — The South Carolina Department of Public Safety has sent in their request to join the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s 287(g) program, which would allow state officers to enforce federal immigration laws. The agency is waiting for federal approval for their request, but if granted, at least three officers will undergo initial training.
The agency plans to have 30 law enforcement officers trained to serve under the Task Force Model (TFM), from the SC Highway Patrol and State Transport Police, two divisions that are under SCDPS.
